  • The Governor’s budget request for 2012 and 2013 includes approximately $170 million in additional state GRF funding that will go directly to school districts.

    . With little fanfare, one of Kasich’s education advisers has been meeting with teachers, school treasurers, administrators and other to get input on a new formula to distribute tax dollars to 614 public school districts across the state.
    . …the governor’s assistant education policy advisor, asked teachers what resources they need to do their jobs and help students succeed.
    . After signing into law a new two-year state budget shaving nearly $780 million in operating funds for Ohio schools, Kasich said his goal for a new funding formula is to direct more money into classrooms. He often cites a recent report showing Ohio ranked 47th in the nation for the share of elementary and secondary spending that goes into instruction and 9th for the share that goes to administrative costs.
    . Teachers urged the administration to recognize that school nurses, counselor and cafeteria staff all work together to ensure that students are ready to learn.
    . Kasich hopes to unveil his plan this year and implement it in time for the 2012-1013 school year.
