Nightmare

Two 70+ year old retired k-12 teachers reported to this administrator of having recurring frightening dreams. These emotional images, while asleep are of an out of control classroom of children. It’s an entire classroom of flailing motions. Relief from the nightmare comes only when awoken.

Upon reflection, it was an image of “special education” children. Parents want their children mainstreamed so they become socialized. … the children are able to learn, but …..

The conversation lead to questioning whether there was a law that forced such children into the main classroom or was it a concession by school administrators to the wishes of the child’s parents. It was also mentioned that families with such children moved to specific districts (Princeton) that provided certain services.

Days earlier, this administrator had an unrelated conversation with a local businessman/doctor who questioned the costs of such districts and what could be done to lower their costs. Is it possible that these high service districts incur a disproportionate share of educating the community’s children?
