Gifted education presentation Oct. 24
    MONTGOMERY – A parent-led group will offer a presentation titled “State of Gifted Education” at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Sycamore Junior High School, 5757 Cooper Road.
    The free, public event will feature Sally Roberts, past president of the Ohio Association of Gifted Children, who has testified before the state board of education. She is gifted services supervisor at Huber City Schools. Laurie Frank, Sycamore’s assistant director of student services, also will discuss its gifted education program.
   There also will be two simultaneous sessions: Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” and “Brain Development and Over-excitability.”
   Sycamore GEAR is a parent-led group that serves families in Sycamore Community Schools.

    Gifted education information shared during Oct. 24 event
    Sycamore GEAR (Gifted Education, Advocacy and Resources) will present “The State of Gifted Education” from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 24) at Sycamore Junior High School, 5757 Cooper Road.
    The event will feature Sally Roberts, past president of the Ohio Association of Gifted Children, who will share state and national information on gifted education, while Laurie Frank, Sycamore’s assistant director of student services, will share information on the district’s gifted education program.
    Roberts has testified before the Ohio House and Senate Committees regarding gifted education funding and before the State of Ohio Board of Education regarding gifted education issues. She is currently the gifted services supervisor at Huber Heights City Schools.
    As the assistant director of student services, Frank is responsible for overseeing districtwide testing, the English as a Second Language program, gifted services, secondary special education and the district’s counseling and nursing staffs. She is a member of the Association of Supervisors of Curriculum and Development and has served on Ohio’s Early Childhood Gifted Task Force.
    Following Roberts’ and Franks’ presentations, event attendees can attend one of two informational sessions: “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” or “Brain Development and Over-excitability”. These two special sessions will be led by Nicole Dietrich and Cathy Reed, Hamilton County Educational Service Center coordinators for gifted, who provide professional development for teachers and administrators in the areas of differentiation, gifted programming, brain research, 21st century skills, leadership, curriculum and gifted issues.
    The event is free and open to the public.
