As you educate yourself, we believe it is important to put this issue in proper perspective. Ohio’s significantly shrunken private sector is paying for a government today that is roughly the same size as it was in 2000, but that costs a lot more than it did in 2000 due to ever-increasing government compensation packages. Without collective bargaining reform, our taxes will have to go up. It is that simple. School districts all over Ohio already are seeking higher taxes, as county assessors downgrade the value of our homes. If we want a vibrant Ohio for our children and grandchildren, then we must push back against the status quo of high taxes, weak private sector job growth, and rising inequality between government workers and private sector workers who fund them.
